Inefficient and rework are common problems in the construction industry. These are greatly due to the fact that there is no tool for contractors to tackle their design and construction challenges in the construction projects. The 2D drawings as means for design communication and Gantt chart as means for process communication is not enough to address the challenges. Contractors need tools for ensuring error free building and temporary work facilities design and for representing and communicating process plan clearly.  Virtual Construction can be used as a tool to represent building and temporary work facilities design in 3D and to simulate construction process virtually. It can help contractors to tackle their challenges and thus can help to cut cost of reworks and improve process efficiency. In this talk, Mr. Guy Lam from Mtech will introduce BIM applications to the construction industry, and then, Mr. Tim Huang from PolyU will demonstrate how Virtual Construction technology can be applied to the construction industry and the advantages that this approach brings to the contractor and project team, and finally, Ir. Andrew Fan from Gammon will share the user experience of applying BIM technology to construction project.

In the Q & A session, audience may raise questions, problems or difficulties encountered for discussion.
