| Resource planning is not a new topic for the construction industry, but it is still “Greek” to many engineering practitioners. The reason is that the people who deal with project resources are working mainly on the front lines. They typically lack the training, skill, and information necessary to prepare a resource-allocated programme. Even if they are aware of the whole picture, they often are unable to illustrate it in a programme because of a shortage of guidelines and procedures in the industry. However, resource planning is crucial to the success of a project. Even if an ideal tender programme has been formulated, unless the available resources are incorporated into the programme, the estimated time schedules shown in the programme may not comply with the project budget. In those programmes without allocated resources, the activity relationship link (or task dependence) is now heavily relied upon to formulate a critical path (CPM) programme. However, such a programme has many limitations if it is viewed without available resources. This presentation will share some experiences about how to gather resource information and how to analyze and adjust the resources for preparing a construction programme. The next session will cover problems encountered during the process of updating programmes, because in most cases there is a gap between the theoretical resources model and actual conditions. Some suggestions will be made to overcome those problems. Please find more details and registration form from the attachment. |
